New England Revolution News Release
NEW YORK - On July 25, 2020, following the New England Revolution's match against the Philadelphia Union in the MLS is Back Tournament, New England Revolution Head Coach Bruce Arena was issued a red card for confrontational conduct and unacceptable and offensive language directed towards match officials.
MLS today announced that MLS Commissioner Don Garber has suspended Arena for an additional two games, three games total, and issued a $15,000 fine for his unacceptable conduct and use of inappropriate language.
Arena served the first game of his suspension, for the red card, on August 20, during New England's match against Philadelphia Union. He will serve the additional two-match suspension during New England's matches on August 25 against D.C. United and August 29 against the New York Red Bulls.
Assistant Coach Richie Williams assumed head coaching duties for New England on Aug. 20, and will do so again on Tuesday night against D.C. United. The 7:00 p.m. ET kickoff at Audi Field airs on NBC Sports Boston with Brad Feldman and Charlie Davies calling the action. The contest is also available on 98.5 The Sports Hub HD2, with Portuguese commentary available on WBIX 1260 AM Nossa Radio USA.
Williams joined the Revolution as an assistant coach in June 2019 with more than 15 years of coaching experience within Major League Soccer, the U.S. Men's National team, the NCAA, and the USL Championship. A three-time MLS Cup Champion as a player, Williams filled in as the club's head coach on August 20, guiding the Revolution to a 0-0 draw vs. Philadelphia. Prior to his current role, the Middletown, N.J. native served as head coach of D.C. United's USL Championship affiliate, Loudoun United FC in 2019.
