January 7, 2019 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Portland Timbers News Release
PORTLAND, Ore. - Major League Soccer today unveiled the full 34-game, 2019 regular-season schedule for the Portland Timbers. After an extended 12-game road swing to begin the season due to the expansion of Providence Park, Portland will return to play its home opener, presented by Providence Health & Services, on June 1 against Los Angeles FC and will conclude its regular season with 11 of its last 12 matches at Providence Park.
The club's extended road schedule to begin the season is due to completion work on a multiphase, $75 million stadium-expansion project that will add approximately 4,000 new seats to the east side of Providence Park and a host of amenities and improvements throughout the stadium.
Beginning Aug. 10 against Vancouver Whitecaps FC, the Timbers will open a 10-game homestand as part of playing 11 of their last 12 games to conclude the season at Providence Park. During that stretch, Portland will play host to Atlanta United FC in a rematch of the 2018 MLS Cup final on Aug. 18 and square off against Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders FC at Providence Park on Aug. 23.
In 2019, the Timbers will have more than a dozen matches featured on national television, including matches at Providence Park against LAFC (June 1), LA Galaxy (July 27), Atlanta (Aug. 18) and Seattle (Aug. 23).
The Timbers open Cascadia Cup play on May 10 on the road against Vancouver Whitecaps FC and travel to square off against Sounders FC in a nationally televised match on July 21.
During the 2019 MLS regular season, each club will play 34 games, including 17 home games and 17 away games. Teams will face each of their conference opponents twice during the season, with one game at home and one game away. All teams will face each non-conference opponent once.
Portland will face six Eastern Conference opponents at Providence Park this season. The Timbers will play host to Eastern Conference teams Orlando City SC (July 18), Chicago Fire (Aug. 14), Atlanta United FC (Aug. 18), D.C. United (Sept. 15), New York Red Bulls (Sept. 18) and New England Revolution (Sept. 25). Squaring off against Eastern Conference foes on the road, Portland will travel to face the expansion side FC Cincinnati (March 17), Columbus Crew SC (April 20), Toronto FC (April 27), Philadelphia Union (May 25), Montreal Impact (June 26) and New York City FC (July 7). Fans can check the Timbers schedule page to see flight options available through Alaska Airlines.
The Timbers play home matches on five different days of the week this season, including 13 weekend contests. In addition to five Sunday home games, the Timbers play host to seven Saturday and three Wednesday fixtures at Providence Park.
