Tigers Fall 3-1 to Raiders
November 9, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - Prince Albert Raiders goaltender Tikhon Chaika put his team on his back and found a way to get past the Medicine Hat Tigers 3-1 Tuesday night at Co-op Place.
The 1st frame would see the Tigers get out to a relentless start against Prince Albert, outshooting their opponents 7-1 at one point in the period, the 1st would end scoreless and the Tigers had an advantage in shots of 12-9.
More of the same in the 2nd as both teams would stay square at 0-0 but not for the lack of putting a puck past both Chaika & Beckett Langkow (Vegreville, AB), first Gavin McKenna (Whitehorse, YK) would be denied his first WHL goal after it was called back due to goalie interference and Terrell Goldsmith knocked a goal past Langkow that was called back on a video reviewed high stick. The second period finished with Tigers outshooting Prince Albert 13-10 and for a two period total of 25-19.
In the 3rd period we'd finally see the red light flash as Tyler MacKenzie (Red Deer, AB) would cash in on a Tiger power play to make 1-0 off a feed from Oasiz Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) & Andrew Basha (Calgary, AB) at 4:01. But just 58 seconds later Sloan Stanick would sneak in on a breakaway to make 1-1. It wouldn't be till after the Tigers killed a 5 on 3 to the Raiders and on the ensuring 5 on 4 with 7 seconds left Hayden Pakkala would score to make 2-1 Prince Albert. The Tigers would press with the extra attacker but Carson Latimer would make it 3-1 Raiders with just 37 seconds left on clock in the third.
The Tigers end up outshooting the Raiders 34-28 and were 1/3 on the power play and 3/4 on the penalty kill when the final tallies were rung up.
Medicine Hat will have another opportunity to get back into the win column on Friday night as they welcome the Moose Jaw Warriors for the 1st time this season to start a home at home with the Warriors. The Tigers will be hosting the Royal Canadian Legion for a Remembrance Day Ceremony before puck drop, so be sure to get your tickets now at www.tixx.ca Game Time is set for 7:05 PM.
