Kisio Named as Assistant Coach for 2023 World Junior Championship

LETHBRIDGE, AB - The Lethbridge Hurricanes Hockey Club are proud to announce that Hockey Canada has named head coach Brent Kisio as an assistant coach for the 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship.

Kisio, 39, will serve as an assistant coach for the World Junior team for the second time in his career having served as an assistant at the 2019 tournament in Vancouver. He has represented Canada at the coaching level multiple times at the Under-17, Under-18 and Under-20 levels highlighted by capturing a gold medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup as the Canadian head coach.

The Calgary, AB, product is in his eighth season as the Hurricanes head coach. Kisio is the winningest coach in Hurricanes history having posted a record of 244-162-39, collecting a winning percentage of .592. In his tenure with the 'Canes, Kisio has led the team to two conference championships while qualifying for the WHL Playoffs in all seven seasons there have been a post-season and being named as a finalist for the 2014-2015 WHL Coach of the Year. He is the longest active serving coach in the WHL and is the seventh winningest active coach in the entire WHL.

Kisio will serve on a staff with fellow WHL coaches Dennis Williams (EVT, WJC Head Coach) and Kelly Guard (PA, WJC Goaltending Consultant).

The 2023 IIHF World Junior Championship will take place from December 26th, 2022 until January 5th, 2023 in Halifax, NS, and Moncton, NB.
