Regina, SK - The Edmonton Oil Kings fell 7-4 to the Regina Pats on Wednesday night a the Brandt Centre.

The Pats jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after getting goals from Braxton Whitehead and Borya Valis in the opening 4:52 of the game but the Oil Kings would be able to close the gap later in the frame.

After being shorthanded three times in the first 10 minutes of the period, the Oil Kings would get a power play of their own at the 12:27 mark. Just as the Edmonton power play expired, Luca Hauf pushed a puck on goal that generated a rebound that Rhett Melnyk was able to elevate up and over the sprawled Regina netminder for his team-leading fifth goal of the campaign, cutting the Pats lead in half entering the first intermission.

In the second period, the Oil Kings found an equalizer just past the midway mark of the game after Marshall Finnie finished off a beautiful three-way passing play between himself, Hauf and Ethan Peters for his third goal of the season.

Before the period was out though, the Pats were able to restore their lead after Connor Bedard was robbed on a breakaway attempt by Ronin Geraghty, Jakob Brook followed up, grabbed the rebound and handed it to Bedard for an open-net tap-in.

In the third period, the Pats exploded for four goals in the opening 7:54 with Valis scoring twice to complete his hat-trick along with Alexander Suzdalev and Layton Feist notching singles.

The Oil Kings wouldn't go quietly however with Carson Golder scoring for the third time in the last four games and Hauf ripping home his third goal of the season and third point of the game on an Edmonton power play, but that would be close as the Oil Kings would get.

Geraghty finished the night making 24 saves while Drew Sim turned in 18 saves for the Pats. Edmonton was 1-for-5 on the power play, Regina was 1-for-7.
