Spokane Chiefs Partner with Avista and Project Share
November 9, 2022 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Spokane Chiefs News Release
Each season, Avista Utilities partners with the Spokane Chiefs to raise funds and awareness for Project Share, which was established to provide emergency energy assistance. Donations to this program help provide a vital service to our neighbors who are facing some of their most challenging times. Project Share is administered by SNAP. For 50 years SNAP has served the Spokane region as a leading voice on poverty. As the Spokane area's Community Action leader, SNAP takes the lead in educating and empowering our low-income neighbors.
For every Power Play Goal the Chiefs score, $25 is donated to this amazing cause. During the 2021-2022 season, the Chiefs scored 59 power play goals resulting in $1,475 hand delivered to Project Share from the Chiefs' own Boomer the Bear.
"Winter has already begun in the Inland Northwest, and this puts extra pressure on families struggling to keep up with their energy bills." SNAP CEO Julie Honekamp continued, "For many families this time of year, the ability to pay their energy bill is a matter of sickness or health. We are grateful for our partnership with Avista - and the Spokane Chiefs - for providing support to Project Share emergency energy assistance so we can help more households weather life's challenges."
"The Chiefs are incredibly proud to partner with Avista in support of programs such as SNAP and Project Share," Chiefs' Director of Community Relations Alex Costanzo said, "Providing housing and energy assistance to disadvantaged people in our community is a generosity that we should all strive for."
