Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
Medicine Hat, AB - Thanks to Oasiz Wiesblatt's 11th goal of the season Saturday night, Medicine Hat and surrounding communities let the fur fly in the Tigers 2-1 loss to the Saskatoon Blades during their annual Teddy Bear Toss.
After all the teddy bears, winterwear and donations were tallied up by Tigers staff and volunteers. The Tigers were able to collect 1346 Bears and also bringing in 1510 winter items from toques, mittens and scarves which will be dropped of at the team's four charities that took part in the Teddy Bear Toss game at Co-op Place. The Medicine Hat Health Foundation, The Santa Claus Fund, Medicine Hat Women's Shelter Society and the Salvation Army will all receive bears and winterwear to hand out during the holiday season
The Tigers leadership group of Captain Owen MacNeil, Rhett Parsons, Dru Krebs, Dallon Melin & Tyler MacKenzie made their way to the Medicine Hat Hospital and Santa Claus Fund on Monday. Visiting the Hospital's newborns, children and pediatric patients as well as learning about the Santa Claus Fund's intake process,
MacNeil says it was an afternoon he and his teammates won't forget any time soon.
"For them to bring us in to help out with the Teddy Bears was an unreal experience for us," he says. "Seeing kids with a smile on their face when we gave them the bears today just brought better energy into the rooms we visited, to see what those families go through at this time of the year can be difficult but being able to make a difference in their lives in what some of them might be going through really puts things into perspective and it was an honour to be at the Hospital and see what the Santa Claus Fund provides for the community."
Tigers Broadcast & Communications Gino De Paoli says it was an incredible display of generosity by the community.
"Just seeing all the bears fly onto the ice was an unreal moment, especially since the fans had to wait till the third period to throw the bears," he says. "You could hear all the emotions on the ice and in the stands and then the relief when Oasiz Wiesblatt finally scored with 5:33 left in the game. It was great game to be a fan at and with the local charities involved they've seen an uptake in those requiring them during the Christmas season, the Tigers as an organization are to proud to give back."
The Tigers would like to thank all of those who brought a bear and winterwear to the game on Saturday Night, and are already looking forward to next year's Teddy Bear Toss.
The Tigers will be on the road Tuesday night in Edmonton looking for their second straight win against the defending WHL Champions, you can catch the game on the Home of the Tigers Wild 94.5 with Gino De Paoli starting at 6:45.
Medicine Hat's next home game will Saturday, December 10 when the Moose Jaw Warriors are in town for the last time this season.
