Indianapolis Indians News Release
NORFOLK, VA - Steven Brault struck out a career-high 11 batters over six frames of scoreless pitching, but the Norfolk Tides battled back from three deficits to top the Indianapolis Indians on Wednesday night, 7-6.
Brault and the Tribe (10-8) cruised through six innings. Willy Garcia tripled home the game's first run in the top of the second, and he later came across in the inning to further the lead. Josh Bell drove in a run in the third to make it 3-0 in favor of Indianapolis, and that lead would last until the seventh.
In the seventh frame, Norfolk (7-13) rallied for three runs on five hits to tie the game. Christian Walker singled home two runs to complete the comeback and tie the game at three.
Once the final out of the ninth inning was recorded and the game sent to extras, the rain started to fall. The umpires called for the tarp shortly before the 10th inning was set to start, and it remained on for a nearly two-hour delay. Play resumed shortly before 11 p.m., and the Indians vaulted back in front with a run.
The lead was short lived, as Trey Mancini tied the game with a knock to right field in the bottom half of the inning. Cole Figueroa provided a two-run home run for the Indians in the top of the 12th, but the Tides walked off winners in the bottom half of the 12th.
With two men aboard, Mancini doubled to bring the Tides back within one run, and it also put the tying run 90 feet from crossing the plate. Two walks followed, and the third and final comeback was complete for Norfolk.
Richard Rodriguez (2-0) allowed Figueroa's home run but got the victory. Jorge Rondon (1-1) pitched to six batters in the 12th and was handed the loss.
The Tribe will wrap-up the road trip on Thursday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. The club returns to Indianapolis on Friday night, with first pitch set for 7:15 p.m. at Victory Field.
