NORFOLK, VA - Jameson Taillon held Norfolk to one run over seven innings, but a five run eighth for the Tides undid Indianapolis' hopes on Thursday at Harbor Park.
Taillon went seven full innings in competition for the first time since doing so for the Indians on August 27, 2013. He walked his first batter of the year, but tallied a season-high seven strikeouts.
Guido Knudson (1-1) took the loss for having his team-best 12-inning scoreless streak snapped in his part of the eighth. Edgar Olmos (1-0) earned the win after the Indians chased Tides starter Ariel Miranda with five runs after six frames.
The Indians (10-9) put a crooked number up in the second to start the scoring. Four base hits were followed by a two-run double from Alen Hanson to score four in the frame.
Norfolk (8-13) responded with a run in the third on a double from Xavier Avery.
Max Moroff belted his third home run of the year to start the sixth and put Indianapolis' lead back at four.
As was the case last night, a late rally from the Tides began to make things interesting once Taillon departed. A walk and three hits plated two runs for Norfolk in the eighth to make the score 5-3 before heavy rains forced a delay with two on and none out. Upon resuming play, the home club added three more to bring the tally to 6-5.
Indianapolis returns to Victory Field to open its longest home stand of the season tomorrow at 7:15 p.m.
