Norfolk Tides News Release

Henry Urrutia's two-run double highlighted a five-run eighth inning, propelling Norfolk to a 6-5 comeback win over the Indianapolis Indians Thursday night at Harbor Park.

The Tides had managed just four hits and trailed the contest 5-1 entering the eighth inning before rallying against Indy's bullpen. Xavier Avery led off the frame with a walk before three consecutive singles by Dariel Alvarez, Ryan Flaherty and Christian Walker brought the Tides to within 5-3. Guido Knudson (1-1) was summoned from the Indians bullpen to quell the threat, but a heavy rainstorm halted play for 43 minutes with a 2-0 count and Trey Mancini at the plate.

When play was resumed, Mancini worked a walk to load the bases, and Urrutia followed by lining a double into right-center field to knot the score at 5-5. Francisco Pena then plated Mancini with a sacrifice fly to left field, giving the Tides a 6-5 advantage.

Chaz Roe made the lead hold up, as he struck out two in a scoreless ninth to earn his second save of the year and give Norfolk a two-game series sweep.

Edgar Olmos (1-0) earned the win by striking out three over two shutout innings of relief.

Flaherty and Walker each had two hits and an RBI for Norfolk, which finished its eight-game homestand with a 4-4 record. Flaherty has now hit .500 (5-10) over his first two games with the Tides since being optioned from Baltimore.

Norfolk starter Ariel Miranda yielded five runs on six hits over six innings of work. The Indians did most of their damage against Miranda in the second frame, as they plated four runs on five hits in the inning. Dan Gamache and Pedro Florimon both had RBI singles in the frame before Alen Hanson capped the scoring with a two-run double.

Miranda settled down after the rocky second, allowing one run - a solo homer by Max Moroff - over his next four innings. Miranda walked two and struck out four in his outing as he saw his ERA rise to 4.29 through four starts this season.

The two teams take their series to Indianapolis Friday, as Norfolk kicks off a nine-game, ten-day road trip. Odrisamer Despaigne (0-3, 6.63) gets the start for the Tides and will be opposed by right-hander Wilfredo Boscan, with first pitch slated for 7:15 pm.

Notes: Norfolk now has three wins when trailing after seven innings this season, most in the International League...Henry Urrutia has hit .333 with a .420 on-base percentage through 18 games this season...Norfolk's relievers have seven of the team's eight victories this season.
