Charleston Dirty Birds News Release
Charleston, WV (August 18, 2005) - The West Virginia Power and the Lakewood BlueClaws played three and a half innings of Thursday night's game at Appalachian Power Park, before the rain came down and prevented the two teams from playing their twentieth and final game of the season.
Alcides Escobar drove in a run in the bottom of the second inning on a double and he scored later in the inning on Carlos Corporan's single. Lakewood cut the lead in half on Brad Harman's RBI groundout in the top of the third inning. Ryan Braun provided the Power with a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning on an RBI groundout. The rain came down after the final out was made in the top of the fourth inning.
The BlueClaws and Power do not play again this season, therefore the game will not be made up.
The Power will begin a four game series with the Kannapolis Intimidators on Friday night at FieldCrest Cannon Stadium in Kannapolis, North Carolina. The Power will throw right-handed pitcher Mark Rogers (1-7, 4.65) and Kannapolis will counter with right-handed pitcher Lucas Harrell (6-9, 3.63). The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
