
Batista to join Hoppers

(GREENSBORO, NC) The Florida Marlins announced Thursday that infielder Norberto Batista will join the Greensboro Grasshoppers from the Gulf Coast League Marlins in Jupiter, FL.
Batista was selected as a non-drafted Free Agent in September of 2002. In 2003 and 2004 he played with the Marlins Dominican Summer League team before beginning this season with the class High-A Jupiter Hammerheads. This year with the GCL team, Batista is hitting .183 in 24 games played. He has scored 12 runs on 13 hits and has walked 18 times. Defensively, he has played 21 games at the shortstop position, three games at second base, and once in the outfield.
In his seven games played with the FSL Hammerheads, the Panama native was hitting .333 with two runs and three hits, including one double.
His best season was in 2004 when he was hitting .320 with a .390 slugging percentage in 57 games played.
The current Greensboro player that Batista is replacing on the Grasshopper roster is still unknown.
