RiverDogs to Salute Local World Series Champions

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs will recognize the St. Andrews Dixie Boys youth team that recently captured a World Series title by saluting them at Friday's game.

The St. Andrew's Parks and Playground Dixie Boys All-Star team captured the Dixie Boys World Series on August 11 in Muscle Shoals, AL.

St. Andrew's defeated Newton County, GA, 6-5 in the championship game to win the first World Series title in St. Andrew's Parks and Playground's 60-year history. St. Andrew's, the South Carolina state champions who were coached by Butch Forrester, went 17-1 in state and World Series play.

"We are extremely proud of the excellent youth baseball that is played in the Lowcountry and we're excited to bring this championship team to Riley Park to help secure the recognition they so richly deserve," said RiverDogs General Manager Dave Echols.

Individual members of the team will be recognized during the game in between innings of Friday's contest against the Savannah Sand Gnats. First pitch is slated for 7:05 p.m.

Friday night is another Fireworks Night presented by Sprint and The Drive @ 100.5 FM. RiverDogs president Mike Veeck will also be on hand to sign copies of his book, "Fun is Good," presented by Costco.
