
Valdez blast boosts Asheville to victory

(Eastlake, Ohio)--- Second baseman Jose Valdez blasted a two-run homerun in the third inning to lift the Asheville Tourists over the Lake County Captains 3-1 Thursday night at Classic Park.
Designated hitter Rob Hosgood started the top of third with a triple down the right field line off Captains starter Chuck Lofgren (5-3). After a strikeout and a line drive out, Valdez crushed his two run shot making the score 2-0 in favor of the Tourists (24-28, 62-59).
The Captains (25-25, 65-55) scored their only run in the bottom half of that same inning when shortstop Brian Finegan delivered a two out double to left to plate Mark Obradovich from second making the score 2-1.
Asheville added an earned run in the top of the sixth when catcher Nelson Robledo singled in Dustin Hahn from second to take the score to 3-1.
Jake Postlewait (6-7) tossed six and two-thirds allowing one run on eight hits, walking none and striking out three. Scott Beerer retired the side in order in the ninth to record his 23rd save of the season.
The Captains will travel to Greensboro, N.C. and play game one of a four game series with the Grasshoppers starting Friday night at 7:05 (WELW AM 1330).
