GREENVILLE, SC - A nine-run first inning gave Roger Lincoln and Greenville more than enough Thursday as the Bombers beat the Greenjackets for a second straight night, 14-1. Chris Turner's three-run homer highlighted the big frame in which Greenville sent 14 batters to the plate, 12 of them against righthander Darren Sack (8-6), who allowed nine runs over just two-thirds of an inning.
Lincoln's stellar outing was overshadowed as Greenville piled up 15 hits including three home runs. The lefthander fired six shutout innings in bouncing back from a loss in his previous start to up his record to 3-1. He allowed three hits while striking out six batters.
In addition to Turner's blast, the Bombers also got home runs from Chuck Jeroloman, who went 3-for-5, and John Otness. Otness finished 2-for-3 with four RBI and leapfrogged ahead of Augusta's Brian Horwitz for the South Atlantic League lead in batting. Otness upped his average to .340, while Horwitz went 0-for-3 and dropped to .336.
Bombers reliever Brian Marshall gave up one run in three innings of work, earning his first save of the season.
The clubs meet in the finale of the four-game series on Friday at 7:05pm. Righthanders Beau Vaughan (2-5) for Greenville and Anthony Pannone (2-1) for Augusta will pitch.
