Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release
Charleston, WV -The BlueClaws (25-26) were rained out Thursday night in their final game against the West Virginia Power (26-24), Single-A affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. It was the final time this year the BlueClaws and Power were meeting as Lakewood looked to complete the three game series sweep.
The game was moving into the bottom of the fourth with West Virginia on top 3-1 when the rain came. The game was delayed for over an hour and a half before finally being called. At one point the rain had slowed and the tarp was taken off the field to prepare the field. The players all came out to stretch and the pitchers began warming up but it started raining again, this time even harder.
West Virginia took a 2-0 lead in the second inning with two outs. Will Lewis was hit by a pitch then came home to score when Alcides Escobar followed up with an RBI double. Carlos Corporan came up next and connected for an RBI single for a 2-0 Power lead.
Lakewood cut the lead in half in the third on an RBI from Brad Harman. Greg Golson tripled with one out then came home on Harman's ground out to second to cut the Power lead to 2-1.
West Virginia got the run back in the bottom half in a carbon copy of how the BlueClaws scored. Hernan Iribarren tripled with one out then came home on Ryan Braun's ground out to second and it was 3-1 Power.
All the scoring and stats will not count since the game was not an official game and the BlueClaws suffered their first lost game of the year. This game could be made up at the end of the year if it is needed for divisional standings and playoff implications.
The BlueClaws head to Salisbury Maryland for two games against the first place Delmarva Shorebirds, Single-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles. The BlueClaws will send lefty J.A. Happ to the mound in game one of the series. First pitch on Friday night is at 7:05 p.m. with on-air time at 6:50 p.m. on 1310 WADB and www.blueclaws.com.
