
ThunderBolts Hold off Late Freedom Rally

Florence, KY-The The Windy City Thunderbolts(42-30) held off a late surge by the Florence Freedom(40-33)and went on to win game one of a critical three game series 8-5. The Thunderbolts now lead the Freedom by 2.5 games in the wild card race with twenty three games to play.
Windy City had a comfortable 8-1 lead heading into the 9th, but the Freedom scratched and clawed their way back into it forcing the Thunderbolts to use five pitchers in the inning. After Eddie Rodriguez struck out against Andy Mee to start the inning, Drew Rundle drew a walk, which was followed up by a dropped pop up by the third baseman Travis Weaver which enabled Jim Jacquot to reach base. Mark Kuzma was then brought in as he walked John Malloy to load the bases. With the bases loaded and one out, Andrew Chilcoat was brought in to face Stephen Cardullo who grounded a ball deep in the whole at short scoring Rundle on a fielder's choice to make it 8-2. Pierre LePage then followed by reaching on a fielder's choice scoring Jacquot to cut the deficit to 8-3. With the bases remaining loaded, David Harris was hit by a pitch forcing in Malloy to cut the lead in half to 8-4. Then Junior Arrojo grounded into a fielder's choice plating Cardullo to get the score to 8-5. With Peter Fatse batting, Windy City brought in lefty Shane Zegarac. Fatse drew a walk which loaded the bases again and set the stage for Rodriguez. With Rodriguez representing the winning run at the plate, righty Michael Click was brought in as he struck out Rodriguez to end the game.
Alec Lewis(4-7) took the loss as he went 6.2 innings giving up 8 hits and 7 earned runs. Tyson Corley(3-6) earned the win pitching 7 strong innings of 4 hit baseball, while Click earned the save.
The Freedom and Thunderbolts will play the middle game of their three game series on Wednesday night. Windy City will feature RHP Stephen Sauer(6-6, 3.23) as the Freedom will send RHP Sean Gregory(6-6, 3.92).
