Bottom of the Lineup Puts Beach Bums on Top

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release


EVANSVILLE, IN - The bottom four batters in the Traverse City Beach Bums lineup went a combined 9-for-18 with seven runs scored and four RBI led by three hits from Kyle Eveland as the Beach Bums came away with a 7-6 comeback win over the Evansville Otters.

Trailing 5-1 heading into the sixth, the Beach Bums began their rally. Leading off the frame, Kyle Colligan singled followed by a single by Marcus Nidiffer. Kyle Eveland came up and doubled down the line in left to score both runners, making it 5-3. Ryan Still was the subsequent hitter and lined a single to right to score Eveland to slice the Evansville lead to a run.

Traverse City would take their first lead of the game in the eight as with one out, Sean Gusrang walked followed by a double by Nidiffer. Eveland came up and delivered again, singling back through the middle to score Gusrang to tie the game and send Nidiffer to third. Still followed with an RBI single of his own to plate Nidiffer and put the Beach Bums up 6-5. Two batters later, Jose Vargas got in on the act, lining a single of his own to right to score Still, expanding the lead to 7-5.

Evansville got a run back in the eighth, but Matt Miller came on and got the final four outs of the game for his sixth save of the season. Offensively for the Beach Bums, Eveland went 3-for-4 with four RBI while Nidiffer had three hits as well.

The win went to Scott Dunn (4-3) who pitched a perfect seventh inning. David Kubiak (0-1) took the loss for the Otters.

Evansville got on the board in the first inning as after a single by Luis Parache and a double by Nick Schwaner, DeAngelo Mack homered to right to put the Otters up 3-0.

Traverse City would respond in the third when Kyle Eveland led off with his second homerun of the season to slice the lead to 3-1. The Otters would come back with two of their own in the bottom of the fifth on a homerun by Taylor Black to go up 5-1.

Game two against Evansville comes up on Wednesday with Reid Kelly (7-3, 4.07) on the mound for the Beach Bums against Bryce Morrow (6-6, 4.33) for the Otters. Coverage on Sunny Country 101.9 will begin with the Beach Bums Pregame Show at 7:15 p.m. outside of a scheduled 7:35 p.m. first pitch.
