Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL)- The Slammers put on an offensive clinic Tuesday night in a 14-2 blowout against the Road Warriors, their fourth straight win. It marks the second time this season Joliet has won four consecutive contests.

The Slammers lineup got started in the second when David Fox ripped a ground-rule double to make it 1-0. Brad Netzel brought two across later in the inning on a single, and with the bases loaded, Erik Lis belted a grand slam deep over the right field fence to make it 7-0 Joliet after two innings. Matt Mirabel and Patrick Norris piled on in the third on a single and double to make it a nine-run advantage.

Joliet didn't strike again until the sixth, but they extended when Kyle Maunus walked with the bases loaded, and David Fox picked up his second hit of the contest, hammering the game's second grand slam, handing Joliet a 14-0 lead.

The Road Warriors tacked some runs on in the seventh on an passed ball and a Tanner Leighton RBI single, giving the game its 14-2 tally.

Matt Sommo earned his first Frontier League win, throwing six scoreless innings in the victory. Brian Smith, Dustin Quattrocchi, and Rey Cotilla finished off the effort in relief.

The Slammers continue their homestand Wednesday in game two with the Warriors at 7:05. It's Military Appreciation Night at the park, and all active and former military members receive half-off reserve seats with valid military I.D. Fans can listen to the game on AM 1340 WJOL with Aaron Morse and Greg Talbott calling the action.
