Rascals Shut Out...Again

River City Rascals News Release

O'Fallon, Mo. - For the third time in the last four games the River City Rascals were held scoreless, losing to the Schaumburg Boomers 4-0 despite bringing the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning.

The Rascals (34-39) lost their fourth-straight, stranding 12 runners on the bases, twice leaving the bases loaded, while the Boomers (42-31) took advantage of their few opportunities.

Schaumburg took a 1-0 lead in the fourth after loaded the bases with no outs before a double play ball scored the run but got starter Tony Marsala (4-6) out of further trouble. The Boomers stretched their lead to 2-0 in the fifth with an unearned run before River City left the bases loaded in the bottom of the inning.

A solo homerun in the eighth extended the lead to 3-0 before Schaumburg scored what would prove to be a big run in the eighth with a two-out single from their top hitter Frank Pfister after he was allowed to hit with first base open.

The ninth inning started with a Chris Andreas walk, the fourth time he reached base on the night, but a pair of fly balls accounted for two outs before Eric Williams walked and Doug Sanders was hit by a pitch to load the bases.

After a pitching change, Jason Patton smoked a pitch that appeared headed to right-center but a leaping catch from Karexon Sanchez ended the game.

The Boomers and Rascals square off in game two of the series Wednesday night with first pitch set for 7:05.
