In the first game of the doubleheader against the Springfield/Ozark Ducks, the Windy City Thunderbolts crushed the Ducks 12-3. ThunderBolts starting pitcher Mike Zirioli kept the Ducks guessing all game, yielding just three runs and eight hits while striking out four and walking none in five innings. Ducks starting pitcher Matt Blanton got roughed up early and often, as the ThunderBolts scored in all but one inning, letting up 15 hits and 12 runs (all earned), walking five and striking out five in his complete game loss. P-Nut Williams continued his hitting streak to 21 games, going 2 for 3 with a two-run HR and a single. In the nightcap, the ThunderBolts struggled defensively against the Ducks with four fielding errors, losing 7-3. Starting pitcher Brett Stephens had a shaky start, giving up all 7 runs (6 earned), 6 hits, and two walks while striking out 6, earning the loss. Ducks starting pitcher Bruce Villareal limited the ThunderBolts to 5 hits and 3 runs (1 earned), walking 3 while striking out 7, earning the win. P-Nut Williams went 1 for 3, extending his league-leading hitting streak to 22 games. Prior to the nightcap, the ThunderBolts had won 11 in a row, tying a Frontier League record for consecutive victories. The ThunderBolts have won 11 of their last 12, and are currently first in their division. The announced attendance was 1,270 for the doubleheader. Tomorrow night the ThunderBolts take on the Springfield Ducks in the third game of their four-game series this weekend. Gates open at 6:00; first pitch is at 7:05.
