RiverHawks Rally, Beat Gateway 6-5

SAUGET, Ill. – The RiverHawks rallied from a 3-0 deficit and beat the Gateway Grizzlies 6-5 at GMC Stadium.

Wayne Astrauskas led off the bottom of the third inning with a home run giving Gateway a 1-0 lead. Ryan Sullivan hit a two-run double that extended the lead to 3-0.

The RiverHawks got on the board in the top of the fifth inning when Rich Austin hit a two-run home run that brought the ‘Hawks within one run.

In the top of the eighth inning the RiverHawk's Eric Archer hit his first career home run breaking a 4-4 tie. Rico Santana added a RBI single in the inning giving the ‘Hawks the 6-4 lead.

Gary Gilbert hit a solo home run for Gateway but it wasn't enough as Rockford closing pitcher Josh Latimer was able to pitch his way out of the ninth inning.

Frank James got the win for the RiverHawks. Latimer picked up the save.

Kyle Zaleski took the loss for Gateway in his career debut.

The RiverHawks wrap up the series at Gateway tomorrow night at 6:05. The ‘Hawks return home to Marinelli Field at 7:05 on Tuesday June 22th against the Richmond Roosters. It will be "2 For Tuesday" featuring two hot dogs or two sodas for $2 sponsored by Dr Pepper/7-Up. Call (815) 964-BALL for tickets.
