Richmond Roosters News Release

Kalamazoo, Michigan - The Roosters pitching staff combined to hold the Kalamazoo Kings to just two runs on five hits Friday night. Unfortunately, the Kings pitchers were even better against Richmond as Kalamazoo downed the Roosters 2-1. The Kings beat the Roosters for the fourth time in as many tries and have held Richmond to just four runs in those four games. Friday's game was the shortest of the season. It lasted just one hour and forty eight minutes.

Richmond scored first on a solo home run by Mike Reese in the fourth. It marked the first homer for Reese on the season and put the Roosters ahead 1-0. Kalamazoo tied the game with a run in the bottom of the fourth off of back to back hits from Darryl Blaze and Fehlandt Lentini. The Kings took the lead in the fifth on a solo bomb by Jason Startari. The Startari home run would eventually be the game winner as the Kings pitchers only allowed one Richmond base runner after the fourth inning. The lone runner was Kevin Brown on a walk in the seventh. Brown has now reached base in twenty-one consecutive games.

Bo Moore (1-1) got the lost despite allowing only two runs and three hits in five innings. Dan Caldwell and Chad Sosebee combined to pitch three shutout innings in relief. Kalamazoo's Ryan Jamison stole the show by delivering six innings of one run, two hit baseball and a combination of Greg Wiltshire and Jake Brooks dominated Roosters batters in the final three innings. Neither Wiltshire or Brooks allowed a hit.

The Roosters (9-18) will being trying to beat Kalamazoo for the first time this season as they play the second game of the series and for the fifth time this year. Justin Quaempts (0-0, 0.00 ERA) makes his professional debut after completing his collegiate career at New Mexico State University. Lee Naplin (2-1, 2.57 ERA) will be the starter for the Kings. Game time is set for 5:35pm (Indiana Time) at Homer Stryker Field in Kalamazoo.
