
Thunder Win Third Straight, Duda Gets No. 500

WICHITA, KS- The Wichita Thunder won their third consecutive game on Friday night, with a 3-1 win over the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Kansas Coliseum. The Thunder scored just 1:12 into the game, on Luke Hunter's first professional goal. Hunter was assisted by Jason Duda, giving the Wichita veteran his 500th assist in a Thunder uniform.
Wichita added to their lead quickly, when Matt Byrnes scored his second goal of the season, on the power play, at 3:46.
Newcomer Jonathan Tremblay added to the early excitement, squaring off with Rocky Mountain's Rob Chappell in a fight. Both players were given five minute majors.
The Rage cut the lead to 2-1 with on Colt King's goal at 14:36 in the second period. Wichita regained their two-goal lead inside the one minute mark, when Chris Tarkir poked in a rebound from Jason Tessier at 19:24.
Krister Toews saved 26 of 27 shots for his third straight win.
Wichita will now try for their first four-game winning streak since the end of the 2005-06 season, when Wichita won their final six regular season contests. The Thunder are back in action Saturday night at Tulsa, in their first visit to the BOK Center. Opening faceoff is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
The Thunder return home on Sunday to host the Rapid City Rush. Scheduled start time is 5:05 p.m., with the Thunder's first postgame skate and autograph session of the season to follow. Skates will not be available for rental this season. For tickets, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL.
