New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[RIO RANCHO, N.M.]-Texas treated the Scorpions with some tricks in a 5-2 Halloween victory. The Scorpions fell to 0-3-1 in their last four games.
The first period featured some great physical play and only one goal. Scott Sheppard put Texas up 1-0 with a shorthanded goal 6:37 into the game.
New Mexico tied the game up with a great Craig Macdonald goal in the second period. Macdonald skated into the zone beat the defenseman and slid the puck past goaltender David Cacciola.
The Brahmas took control of the contest with back-to-back power plays. Craig Minard gave Texas back the lead with his second goal of the season. Lance Galbraith extended the Texas lead with his second of the season. Matt Quinn scored on a clean breakaway as he left the penalty box, received a perfect pass and gave the Brahmas a 4-1 lead.
Tyler Skworchinski redirected a Minard shot into the net giving Texas their third power play goal of the night, early in the third frame. Four of the five Brahmas goals came on the special teams in the Halloween affair.
With less than a minute remaining Neil Trimm pushed home a rebound. The goal was the first of his professional career.
The Scorpions travel to Rocky Mountain on Saturday night. The puck drops at 7:05 p.m. and can be heard on 610 The Sports Animal or seen for free on the CHL Network.
