Bucks Use Power Play to Edge IceRays, 4-3

The Laredo Bucks used their power play to edge the Corpus Christi IceRays on Friday Night at the American Bank Center. Laredo scored all of their goals on the power play as they nipped Corpus Christi 4-3. For the second straight meeting at the ABC, the IceRays outshot the Bucks, but came out on the losing end. The IceRays suffered their fourth straight defeat and the Bucks extended their winning streak to four games. The IceRays will close the week on home ice on Saturday Night as they return to the American Bank Center to hos the Oklahoma City Blazers on Caller-Times Family Night. The Bucks power play erupted in the first period with three power play goals. Rick Kozak scored his first two as a member of the Bucks and Darryl Smith added one in the final minute of the period. The IceRays lone goal of the frame came when Justin Quenneville sent a puck through the crease that redirected in off a Laredo skate at 7:52. The physical tone was set early with the teams squaring off in two fights in the game's opening 32 seconds. The IceRays outshot the Bucks 13-10 in the period.

The IceRays rebounded in the second period with a pair of goals to tie the score. Chris Richards tipped home a shot by John McNabb on a power play at 2:30 to bring the IceRays within one. Then at 9:38 IceRays defenseman, Chris Mei held a clearing attempt and cut towards the slot before dropping the puck off for Ryan Bennett who buried a shot from the bottom of the slot to tie the score. The Bucks outshot the IceRays 12-10 in the period.

In the third period the only goal came on the Bucks power play when Laredo's Smith redirected a Kozak shot at 8:10 past Dustin Traylen and into the net. The goal stood as the game-winning tally as the Bucks held on for the 4-3 win. Traylen (0-2) took the loss making 26 saves on 30 shots while Ryan Gibb (1-1) earned his first pro win with 31 saves on 34 shots. The IceRays power play went 1-7 while the Bucks went 4-9 on the man advantage. The IceRays outshot the Bucks 34-30.
