Rage Lose in Wichita, 3-1

October 31, 2008 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Wichita - The Wichita Thunder rode two power play goals and solid team defense down the stretch to defeat the Rocky Mountain Rage at the Kansas Coliseum, 3-1.

The Thunder scored all the goals they would need in the contest's first four minutes. After spending the game's first two shifts inside the Wichita zone, Rocky Mountain then gave-up a two-on-one the other way. Jason Duda, who notched his 500th career assist in a Thunder sweater on the play, set-up Luke Hunter on the odd-man rush to give their club a 1-0 edge just 1:12 into the game. Wichita added to its lead on its first power play at 3:46 when Matt Byrnes fired a slapshot past Rage netminder Scott Reid and took a 2-0 advantage to the first intermission.

Despite out-shooting the Thunder, 17-5, in the second period, Rocky Mountain exited the frame still trailing by a two-goal margin. Colt King delivered his first goal of the season at 14:36, but Wichita's Chris Tarkir responded on the power play in the period's final minute at 19:23 to give his club a 3-1 lead heading to the third.

The Thunder locked down defensively in the third period, effectively thwarting any Rage effort to mount a comeback. Rocky Mountain appeared to have pulled within one in the final minute with Reid pulled in favor of an extra attacker, but the goal was disallowed. The club finished the evening 0 for 5 with the extra man, while Wichita was 2 for 5, the final difference in the 3-1 loss.

The defeat drops the Rage to 1-5-0 on the year, keeping the club in fourth place in the Northwest Division with two points.
