Stockton Thunder News Release
Stockton, Calif. - The ECHL has announced that the February 7th Hockey Heritage Weekend game presented by CCM between the Stockton Thunder and the Alaska Aces will be televised locally in the Stockton and Sacramento areas live on AntennaTV (KTXL.2 ), which is FOX40's digital channel. The game, which is presented by Chase Chevrolet, Coors Banquet, H & R Block, and Jack in the Box, is scheduled to start at 8:15 p.m. PST with coverage scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m. PST.
The game will then be rebroadcast on Comcast Sportsnet California on Saturday February 8th at 4 p.m. PST and again on NHL Network in the United States on February 9th at 10 a.m. PST.
The entire series against Alaska will be available live on AmericaONE Sports and free audio is available from AmericaONE and Spreaker on StocktonThunder.com.
The 2014 ECHL Hockey Heritage Weekend begins on February 7th and concludes with a game on February 8th. During those games the teams will wear special jerseys that pay tribute to their respective NHL affiliations and local heritage.
During the two game event, the Thunder will be known as the Rough & Ready Islanders. The name pays tribute to Rough & Ready Island, which is minutes away from Downtown Stockton. Rough & Ready Island once served as multi-purposed U.S. Naval base that operated as a supply center, ordnance depot, as an emergency ship repair facility, and as a communications station during World War II and the Cold War.
The facility would eventually be transferred to Stockton Port officials who have since turned the island from a functioning military base, to an economic engine that has triggered more than a decade of growth and development. The 1,400 acre island has generated thousands of jobs as well as seen the investment of hundreds of millions of dollars.
While the name pays tribute to Stockton's rich history, it also pays tribute to the Thunder's NHL affiliate, the New York Islanders. The Thunder will be sporting the same jersey that the NHL club won it's four Stanley Cup's with.
The Thunder will go back to wearing their normal Thunder jerseys for the game against Alaska on February 9th but will play one final game with the jerseys. That game will take place on March 22nd at Stockton Arena when the Thunder welcome in the Aces. The jerseys will be auctioned off in a variety of ways after March 22.
