Fort Wayne Komets News Release

Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets announced Thursday that forward Dean Ouellet has agreed to terms and has been added to the Fort Wayne roster.

Ouellet (wuh-LET), 26, comes to Fort Wayne after appearing in 38 games with San Francisco this season and leading the Bulls with 20 assists and 30 points. Ouellet became a free agent this week after the Bulls announced they were ceasing operations. The Edmundston, New Brunswick native was skating his second season in San Francisco. Ouellet has accumulated four point scoring streaks (3, 4, 3, 4) so far this year and contributed an assist and a shootout goal for a 3-2 win in the Bulls' last game of the season at Stockton Jan. 19.

Ouellet, who is no relation to Komet forward Christian Ouellet, made his pro debut last year with San Francisco and finished second on the Bulls in goals (24) and points (52). "Dean Ouellet is a player who can definitely help the team offensively," Komet general manager David Franke said. "Coach Gary Graham deserves all the credit for getting Ouellet into Fort Wayne."

Ouellet ranked third in the ECHL among rookies in goals and tied for third in points and was named an ECHL All-Star. He was also named the Bulls first and only Team MVP. The 6-foot, 180-pound skater also earned a call-up to Hamilton of the AHL where he appeared in five games.

Prior to turning pro, Ouellet completed four seasons at the University of Moncton (CIS). During his final season in 2011-12 Ouellet led Moncton in assists (28) for the third straight year and posted a team-high 34 points while serving as captain. Ouellet was named Moncton University Male Athlete of the year for 2011-12, named to the CIS First All-Star Team, named CIS Most Sportsmanlike Player of the year and selected to the CIS All Canadian Second Team.
