With the city of Atlanta looking like a hockey rink in its own right the last few days, the Gwinnett Gladiators will host the Orlando Solar Bears at the Arena at Gwinnett Center Thursday night. It'll be the second of four straight games for the Gladiators against the Solar Bears.

The two last faced off a week ago at the Amway Center with Orlando skating away with a 4-3 victory. Josh Currie scored twice, while new defenseman Matt Clune picked up two assists. Mathieu Corbeil made 24 saves in his Gladiators debut.

Glads Notes:

New Faces in New Places: The Gladiators have seen quite a bit of turnover in the new year, first starting with offense, and now in the past week, the defensive side. The team swapped out goaltenders when Scott Stajcer (STAGE-er) and Mathieu Corbeil (cor-BAY) were assigned by the New York Rangers and Utica Comets, respectively. To make room for the new goalies, the team released Paul Karpowich and Brad Phillips. Three defensemen were also brought in from Ontario, first Matt Clune on the 21st, and then Art Bidlevskii and Eric Springer on the 29th. Sacha Guimond and Brett Lyon were traded to the Reign, while Kirill Tulupov was released.

Super Special Teams: In 2014, opponents are only 6-for-55 on their power plays (10.9%) against the Gladiators. Of the 12 games played in 2014, Gwinnett has had a perfect penalty kill in seven games. Overall, the Gladiators rank 5th in the ECHL, killing off 86.7% of opposingpower plays. On the man advantage, Gwinnett has at least one power play tally in 15 of the last 22 games, going 15-for-75 (20%) over that stretch.

Staying Disciplined: Gwinnett is the fourth-least penalized team in the ECHL, averaging just 12.55 penalty minutes per game. Only the Cincinnati Cyclones (11.64), South Carolina Stingrays (11.90), and Elmira Jackals (12.00) average fewer penalty minutes.

Streaking Glads: Rookie forward Marshall Everson has eight points in his previous eight games (4g, 4a) ... Alternate Captain Dirk Southern has ten points in his last 12 games (1g, 9a) ... Coyotes prospects Josh Currie and Brendan Walker having been leading the offense so far in the month of January (7g, 4a for Currie, 5g, 3a for Walker) ... Defenseman Daniel Spivak has finished a game with a minus in only eight of his 37 games played this season, and hasn't gone below a -1.

Snippets: When scoring three or more goals the Gladiators are 14-5-1-1 ...Gwinnett is 12-0 when leading after two periods ... The Gladiators are 12-8 when scoring first, while opponents are 19-3 when Gwinnett gives up the first goal.
