ONTARIO, Calif. - The Colorado Eagles (21-12-5-2) fell short of the Ontario Reign (28-8-2-3) 4-2 at Citizens Business Bank Arena on Wednesday night.
Ontario forward Riley Brace wrapped the puck around the back of the net to beat Eagles netminder Marc Cheverie to get a 1-0 lead for the Reign 6:12 into the first frame.
Just under ten minutes into the second period Colorado forward Trent Daavettila netted a pass from line mate Kyle Ostrow on a power play to tie the game, 1-1. Brace reclaimed the lead, 2-1, for Ontario as he stuffed the puck home on a rebound off of a shot from Gasper Kopitar 13:14 into the second.
Reign forward Maxim Kitsyn found the back of the net on a two-on-one breakaway to extend Ontario's lead 3-1 less than five minutes into the third. Three minutes later, Stalhberg beat Cheverie upstairs from the low slot to give the Reign the 4-1 advantage. Colorado forward Brock Nixon answered the Reign with his first goal of the season off of a pass across the slot from Kevin Ulanski to cut Ontario's lead 4-2 10:33 into the third. Cheverie stopped 16 of the 20 shots Ontario took while Reign goaltender Jussi Olkinuora held off 18 of the 20 shots Colorado threw at him to hold on for the 4-2 victory over the Eagles.
