Atlanta Gladiators News Release

DULUTH, Ga. - In one night the Gladiators doubled their shorthanded goal total for the 2013-14 Season, cruising to a 3-1 win over the Orlando Soar Bears Thursday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center.

Joey Haddad scored two goals to pace the offense, while Mathieu Corbeil was stellar turning aside 31 of 32 shots faced between the pipes for Gwinnett (16-24-1-2). Christopher Gibson suffered the loss for Orlando (22-14-1-2), making 20 saves.

The same two teams face-off Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the Arena at Gwinnett Center for the Gladiators 11th annual Teddy Bear Toss game.

Gwinnett started the shorthanded festivities on a breakaway just over nine minutes into the game. Haddad created a turnover at the point in his own zone, raced down the ice, and deked-out Gibson from in-close lifting a backhander over the sprawled out netminder.

Orlando drew even 37 seconds later on a tally by Kory Nagy, but Haddad struck again before the period was through. The forward worked his way to the front of the net, and deflected a Rob Kwiet point shot past Gibson for a 2-1 Gwinnett lead. Jonathan Narbonne had the second assist on the goal at 11:30 of the first.

Dirk Southern provided some breathing room at 13:49 of the second, taking a pass from Evan Bloodoff and ripping a shot under the blocker of Gibson to the far side of the net for another Gladiators shorthanded goal to cap the scoring.

Corbeil was stout the rest of the way, as Gwinnett held Orlando to an 0-for-6 mark on the power play while improving to 13-0 when leading after two periods this season.
