Erie SeaWolves News Release
The SeaWolves suffered their fourth consecutive loss Friday after the Thunder plunged Erie 11-6 at UPMC Park.
The scoring started off for the Thunder quickly in the first inning. Centerfielder Jeff Hendrix singled and stole second. Zack Zehner belted him in on a double to left to give the Thunder the 1-0 lead in the first.
The Thunder kept the runs coming in the third thanks two a two-run double from second baseman Bruce Caldwell, and Trenton jumped to a 3-0 score.
The SeaWolves managed to tie the game in the third inning. After starter Dillon Tate retired the first two batters, Troy Montgomery squeaked a ball into right field. Following a Jacob Robson walk, Will Maddox belted in Montgomery on an RBI double. The next at-bat, Dominic Ficociello smacked a ball off the mound that rolled into left, scoring both Maddox and Robson to knot it up at 3-3.
Trenton tilted the game in their favor in the fourth inning. Erie starter Spencer Turnbull loaded the bases with no outs, yet struck out two to send Zehner to the plate. The Trenton right fielder then smoked a ball into right field to empty the bases on a triple. Abiatal Avelino knocked him in on a double to escalate the lead to 7-3 Trenton.
Jake Rogers sent a ball on a ride to centerfield in the bottom of the fourth for his third home run of the season.
Trenton added pair in the fifth thanks to a two run single from Francisco Diaz off of Kurt Spomer.
Zehner capped off a five RBI performance with an RBI double in the eighth off of Gerson Moreno, then scored on a single from Gosuke Katoh.
The SeaWolves added two in the ninth thanks to a double from Chad Sedio and a groundout from Jake Rogers, but the Thunder held on to win 11-6.
