
Reading Hits Six Homers in a 12-5 Win over Portland

Portland, Maine - The Reading Fightin Phils (17-27) hit a season-high six home runs and battered the Sea Dogs (16-29) en route to a 11-5 win in front of a sellout crowd in the series opener on Friday night at Hadlock Field.
Emmanuel Marrero had his first career multi-homer game with two round trippers and also had a single to his credit. Damek Tomscha, Zach Green, Deivi Grullon, and Yan Hernandez each went yard for Reading.
Hernandez finished with four hits and was a double shy of the cycle. Tomscha had three hits and fell a triple short of the cycle himself.
The Sea Dogs had three homers of their own, one each from Jeremy Rivera, Jantzen Witte, and Tony Renda. Tate Matheny had two doubles and scored a run, Josh Ockimey finished 3-for-5 with two singles and a double.
Reading jumped out to a 2-0 lead after three and led 4-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth, when the Sea Dogs tied the game on homers by Rivera and Witte to make it 4-4.
The Fightins answered quickly on Marrero's second home run in the sixth, then added eight more runs over the final three innings to extend the lead.
Jo Jo Romero (W, 2-4) allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in six innings. Mike Shawaryn (ND) went five in his start for Portland and allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings.
Luke Leftwich worked two innings in relief and allowed one run. Jake Cosart (1-2) was the losing pitcher and allowed five runs on 1.2 innings pitched. Alexis Rivero finished the game for Reading with a scoreless ninth.
Portland and the Reading Fightin Phils (Phillies affiliate) play a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 PM at Hadlock Field. Dedgar Jimenez (1-3, 5.77) and Travis Lakins (0-1, 3.21) start the games for Portland. Radio coverage on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 12:45 PM. MiLBTV coverage starts at 12:55 PM.
