Thunder Snaps Eagles Win Streak at Six Games

LOVELAND, CO- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Colorado Eagles Friday night 4-1 at the Budweiser Events Center snapping the Eagles' win streak at six games. The game also marked the first time in the teams' three-year series that either team has won three consecutive games over the other, this game marked Wichita's third straight win over Colorado. Sebastien Laplante was the difference in the game saving 40 of 41 of the Eagles shots, and four different Thunder players scored. Eagles right wing Greg Pankewicz score the only goal of the game for Colorado making his career total 997 points. He has just one more game left in the regular season to get to 1,000 points. These two teams will face off again Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center.

The Thunder opened the scoring at the 11:09 mark of the first period when Tab Lardner skated in on Eagles' goaltender Paulo Colaiacovo and went top shelf to take a 1-0 lead. Colorado controlled most of the play in the first period out shooting the Thunder 16-7, but were down one goal going into the first intermission.

Scott Rozendal slammed in a rebound giving the Thunder a 2-0 lead at the 7:54 mark of the second period. Thunder leading scorer Joe Blaznek scored the third unanswered goal of the game on a shorthanded breakaway, his third shorthanded goal in the past two games. The Eagles continued to battle and Greg Pankewicz put in a wrist shot off a face off to cut the lead to 3-1 before the end of the period.

The Eagles again out shot the Thunder in the final period, but couldn't get another puck passed Sebastien Laplante who made a total of 40 saves on the night. Tyler Liebel added a fourth goal on an empty netter for his third point of the game.

The Eagles and Thunder will play again Saturday night at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05 p.m. for the Eagles final game of the regular season.
