Tulsa Center Jim Dahl Named CHL Rookie of the Year
Published on March 24, 2006 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release
Center Jim Dahl of the Tulsa Oilers has today been named the Central Hockey League's Rookie of the Year for the 2005-2006 season. Dahl dominated voting among CHL Coaches, Communications
staffers and selected media members in each market by being named on 36 of 50 ballots. The award
is "Presented annually to the CHL player adjudged to be the most proficient in his first year of
professional competition."
The 24-year old from Minnetonka, Minnesota played the past four years at the University of Alaska -
Anchorage prior to joining the Oilers. Dahl currently is atop the rookie scoring race with 81 points,
and also leads all first year CHL players with 35 goals and six shorthanded goals while sharing the lead
in rookie power play goals (13) with fellow award finalist Dominic Leveille of the Odessa Jackalopes. His
81 points rank ninth overall in the CHL, while his 35 goals have him tied for eight position overall.
Dahl scored his first professional goal on October 28th in a 3-2 (SO) home win over Amarillo, and
recorded his first pro hat-trick in a 3-2 road victory at Youngstown on November 11th. Dahl earned
Sher-Wood Player of the Month honors for February, recording eight goals, 16 assists and a +20
plus/minus rating during the month. The durable Dahl has played in all 61 Tulsa games, recording
multiple points in 24 contests. His top outing this season was a three-goal, two assist performance
in an 8-5 home win against Memphis on January 27th, and he has scored multiple goals in nine separate
contests this season. Dahl becomes the first Tulsa player ever named CHL Rookie of the Year, and the
first Oilers player to win a major League honor since Mike Berger earned the CHL's Community Service
in the 1998-1999 season.
Also listed as finalists for Rookie of the Year honors were Odessa's Leveille (second in balloting) along
with Austin right winger Michael Tucciarone and a trio of defensemen including Bossier-Shreveport's Dale
Lupul, Laredo's Adam Rivet and Rio Grande Valley's Jeff Mushaluk.
Later today the 2005-2006 CHL Most Valuable Player will be announced, with voters selecting from a list
including Amarillo's Derek Hahn, Bossier-Shreveport's Dan Wildfong, Colorado's Greg Pankewicz, Odessa's
Sebastien Thinel, Wichita's Joe Blaznek and Youngstown's Jeff Christian.
