Hounds defeat Fort Worth

Youngstown, OH - The Youngstown SteelHounds (23-35-5) played a near perfect hockey game on Friday night versus the Fort Worth Brahmas (17-38-8) earning the victory 6-0 at the Chevrolet Centre. David St. Germain earned the shutout stopping 41 shots upping the Hounds record versus the Brahmas to 7-0 with one game remaining between the two teams. Six different goal scorers found the back of the net for Youngstown.

The Hounds came out firing on all cylinders scoring the most goals they have registered in an opening period this season and equaling the most in any period in a game. The five goal outsburst for Youngstown was accomplished by five different goal scorers including four players with one goal and two assists each. Chris Richards started the scoring at the 3:54 mark scoring his fourth goal of the two-game series. Jeff Christian and Joey Sewell had the assists. The Hounds second goal of the period came on the power play with Christian putting home a rebound for his league-leading 54th goal assisted by Matt Hanson and J.F. Labarre. The third goal again came off the power play with Sewell scoring his 20th goal of the season assisted by Christian and Richards. Matt Hanson scored his 11th of the season with a blast from the point that snuck past Martin. The assists were given to Richards and Labarre at the 16:53 mark of the first period. The final goal of the frame came from Ben Manny on a blast from the point that fooled Martin for his seventh goal of the season. Hanson and Sewell got the assists on the final goal of the period that saw Youngstown hold a 5-0 lead while being outshot by the Brahmas 15-12. The Houndds finished the first period 3 for 3 on the power play.

The scoring stayed quiet until early in the third period when Chris Shaffer jammed home his 10th goal of the season at the 1:03 mark assisted by Simo Pulkki and Labarre. The remainder of the game was the Hounds keeping the Brahmas at bay earning David St. Germain his second shutout of the season.

Fort Worth finished the night outshooting the Hounds 41-38 but St. Germain earned the first star of the night turning aside all 41 shots recording his 18th win of the season. Martin falls to 0-6-3 stopping 32 shots.

The teams will play again tomorrow night in the season finale for both clubs. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
