
Thunder Signs Free Agent RW Bretton Cameron

STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks, and head coach Matt Thomas announced today the team has signed rookie right winger Bretton Cameron. Per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Cameron, 21, is expected to be available to make his professional debut with the Thunder this Friday, on the road against the Bakersfield Condors at 7:00 p.m. (1280 KWSX/StocktonThunder.com).
"Bretton is the type of player every team needs," said Thomas. "He is a fearless compe titor that can play many different roles. His ability to score is evidenced by his team-leading 40 goals last season. We are looking forward to adding him to the team and think our fans will appreciate his hard working, tenacious style."
Cameron comes to the Thunder after skating with the Chicago Blackhawks during the 2010 NHL prospects camp period and also participated as a free agent invitee in American Hockey League training camp with the Hartford Wolf Pack in September.
The 5-foot-11, 181-pound right winger led the Medicine Hat Tigers of the Western Hockey League and ranked ninth in the league with 40 goals last season, additionally ranking third on the team with 67 points (40g-27a) in 68 games whil e totaling 119 penalty minutes.
Boasting 29 multi-point games in his junior career, Cameron also skated in 23 career playoff games with the Tigers, scoring 13 points (6g-7a).
The native of Didsbury, Alberta was a teammate of Jordan Bendfeld, a defenseman who has suited up for the Thunder through the last three seasons, in Medicine Hat. Through five seasons with the Tigers, Cameron scored 120 points (62g-58a) and collected 261 penalty minutes.
A two-time recipient of the ECHL "Award of Excellence," Thunder was voted "Best Local Sports Team" by readers of the San Joaquin Magazine, led the ECHL in attendance for four consecutive seasons and drew over 200,000 fans for the fifth consecutive season in 2009-10.
