Thunder Play Longball To Beat Phils, 8-4

(Reading, PA)- Home runs by Justin Christian and Matt Carson led a 15-hit attack as the Trenton Thunder beat Reading, 8-4, on Friday night in Eastern League play. Every Thunder position player had at least one hit in the game.

The Thunder (37-21) took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd Inning thanks to a solo homer by Christian off Reading starter Landon Jacobsen. Trenton then added four more runs in the 4th Inning, all with two outs. The runs score on a two-run double by C J.T. LaFountain and a two-run single by 2B Gabe Lopez. Jacobsen (5-4) took the loss allowing five runs over five innings. RF Matt Carson added a two-run homer off reliever Allen Davis in the 7th Inning for a 7-0 lead.

Meanwhile, Thunder starter Brett Smith held Reading (28-32) in check. He blanked them over the first six innings before allowing a run in the seventh. Smith (5-2) allowed seven hits with no walks and five strikouts. The R-Phils scored three times in the 9th Inning off Zach Kroenke. Those runs were sandwiched around a 47 minute rain delay with on eout in the 9th Inning.

Trenton had six different players register two hits on the evening, including CF Brett Gardner, who returned to the lineup after being on the Disabled List for the last month.

The Thunder and Phillies meet again on Saturday at 7:05 PM. Jason Jones (3-3, 3.32) goes to the hill for Trenton against Reading's Chris Rojas (1-0, 3.00).
