Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

The Connecticut Defenders put together back-to-back three-run innings to defeat the Binghamton Mets 8-2 at Dodd Stadium Friday. The loss is Binghamton's second in a row and fifth in their last six games. After Connecticut (23-34) went ahead against Marcos Carvajal in the second when Travis Ishikawa walked and later scored on an error, Binghamton responded in the third. Corey Coles reached Nick Pereira for a one-out triple to right before Jose Coronado brought him in with a sacrifice fly to left, tying the score 1-1.

The Defenders would re-take the lead for good in the third. Eugenio Velez began the inning by reaching on an error by Coronado at short before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error by catcher Robinson Cancel. Trey Webb's groundout scored Velez for a 2-1 Connecticut lead.

Connecticut chased Carvajal (1-4) in the sixth, taking advantage of two more B-Mets (26-31) errors for their first run before a Patrick Dobson sac fly and Velez RBI single put them ahead 5-1. The Defenders got three more off reliever Salvador Aguilar in the seventh on Steve Holm's two-run double and a second Dobson sac fly, which made it 8-1.

Pereira (3-5) departed after seven innings of one-run ball. Binghamton scored the game's final run on Brett Harper's two-out solo homer off Joe Bateman in the ninth.

Saturday, the B-Mets play the second game of a three-game series at Connecticut.
