Thunder Outlasts Eagles 4-2

WICHITA, Kansas- The Wichita Thunder defeated the Colorado Eagles 4-2 Saturday night behind the goaltending of Sebastien Laplante who had 47 shots in the win. Colorado more than double Wichita's shots on goal at 49-24 however they were unable to get the puck past Laplante. Riley Nelson and Ed McGrane scored the goals for the Eagles who are now 30-7-0 and remain in first place in the Northwest Division. Four different players scored for the Thunder as they improved their record to .500 at 16-16-3 and remain in third place in the Northwest Division.

Joe Blaznek had the only goal in the first period, a shorthanded goal with just 1:38 remaining in the period. He was assisted by Jeremy Koning for the Thunder's fifth shorthanded goal of the season. Colorado out shot the Thunder 11-10 in period but found themselves down 1-0 after one period.

Jason Duda gave the Thunder a 2-0 lead early in the second period on a shot from the right circle for his 12th goal of the season. The Eagles controlled the pace of play following the goal and Ed McGrane ripped a shot by Laplante for his 10th goal in the last 12 games. Colorado out shot the Thunder 21-9 in the period however it was George Halkidis that reversed the momentum when he gave the Thunder a 3-1 lead at the 15:26 mark on a power play goal.

The Thunder took a 4-1 lead on a quick snap shot by Tyler Hanchuck at the 6:52 mark of the third period. The Eagles wouldn't go quietly though as Riley Nelson scored his 10th goal in the last 11 games on a power play at the 13:35 mark. Colorado continued to put the pressure on, but again Laplante was up to the challenge. The Eagles again out shot the Thunder 17-5 in the period, but Laplante made the difference finishing with 47 saves. Final score: Thunder 4 - Eagles 2.
