Sundogs Lose First of Year Against Rage 8-4

BROOMFIELD, Colo. - The Arizona Sundogs traveled to Broomfield, Colorado to face fellow expansion club the Rocky Mountain Rage Saturday evening. Prior to the game the Sundogs waived defenseman Kyle Orr and signed right wing Brad Mehalko. The Rage would tally eight goals despite being outshot in the contest 35-32 to end their nine game losing streak and grab their first win against the Sundogs this season 8-4. Rocky Mountain's Dominic Noel scored four goals on the night matching his season total.

The Rage would open the game's scoring at the 7:18 mark of the first as Dorian Anneck would grab his seventh goal of the season from the left circle. Adam Stefishen and Matic Kralj would be credited with assists on the play. Less than four minutes later Dominic Noel would put Rocky Mountain up by two at 10:52 on passes from John DiPace and Jordan Little. The Rage would score its third of the night and first on the power play at 16:16 of the period. Noel would collect his second of the night tipping in a Craig Olynick shot from the blue line past Arizona netminder Kevin Couture. Anneck would grab an assist on the play for his second point of the night.

Rocky Mountain would continue to control the game scoring their fourth goal of the night at 9:33 of the second period. Mark Wires would find Olynick who would put a shot on net as Nathan Rosychuck was in front to find the rebound and put it past Couture. The Sundogs would get on the board at the 15:49 mark as Dan Laperriere would receive a pass from Brent Kelly and Dmitri Leonov and find the far side of the net past Rage netminder Trevor Cunning. The Rage would regain a four-goal lead just 22 seconds later as Noel would notch his third goal of the game from Chip Dunleavy to make it 5-1.

The Rage would open the scoring in the third as they had done in the first two periods. Their sixth and seventh goals would come while on the penalty kill. Trevor Weisgerber would find Rosychuck skating down the right side on an odd man rush with Kyle Kos. Kos would pick up a rebound in front of the net for his second goal of the season. Matic Kralj would pick up the second shorthanded goal at the 5:17 mark unassisted. Rocky Mountain would tally their eighth goal of the night and second on the power play at 7:46 of the frame from Noel, assisted by Dunleavy and Adam Loncan. At 13:55 the Sundogs' Kelly would score on the power play tallying his league leading 29th goal of the season from Laperriere and Chris Bartolone. The Sundogs would be given a four-minute power play after Kralj would be tagged for a high sticking double minor. David Lizotte would pick up a lose puck in front of the net to give Arizona their third goal of the game and second with the man advantage. Adam Campbell and Brad Mehalko would assist on the goal. Lizotte would tally his second of the game 2:14 later on a pass from Leonov to give Arizona their fourth of the night. The third period wouldn't prove to be long enough as Arizona would drop the contest 8-4.

Kevin Couture made 22 saves on 32 shots in the loss for Arizona while Trevor Cunning nabbed his first win of the year for Rocky Mountain stopping 31 of 35 shots. The Sundogs finished 2-of-8 on the power play while Rocky Mountain finished 2-for-9 with the man advantage. The Sundogs look to bounce back against the Rocky Mountain tomorrow afternoon at the Broomfield Event Center in Broomfield, Colorado. Game time is set for 3:00pm but will be tape delayed until 5:00pm on 96.7 FM The Wolf, the Official Broadcast Home of the Arizona Sundogs.
