Rocky Mountain Rage News Release

Broomfield, Colo. - Led by four goals from forward Dominic Noel, the Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team (Central Hockey League) broke their nine-game losing streak 8-4 tonight against the Arizona Sundogs at the Broomfield Event Center. Rage goaltender Trevor Cunning was solid in net making 30 saves in his first win of the season.

Tonight's game was not as close as the final scoreboard indicated. The Rage led by as much as 8-1 by the third period dominating play. The Rage improves to 9-24-4 (22 points) on the season for fourth place in the northwest division. The Sundogs fall to 18-19-1 (37 points) for third place in the southwest division.

Rocky Mountain shutout the Sundogs 3-0 in the first period. Rage goaltender Cunning came out strong in net stopping all six shots on goal, including four one-on-one scoring chances by Arizona.

Right winger Dorian Anneck drew the first goal of the night at 7:18, sliding it past the stick of Arizona goaltender Kevin Couture. At 10:52, Rage winger John DiPace beat two Sundogs defenders just inside the blueline. Center Dominic Noel picked up the pass and fired the puck in net from the glove side of Couture.

Arizona's Ryan Steeves was assessed a holding penalty at 14:37 giving Rocky Mountain their third powerplay opportunity of the night. Noel capitalized on the opportunity and earned his second goal of the night tipping in the puck from between the circles off a pass from Craig Olynick at 16:16.

In the second period, the Rage continued where they left off; Left winger Nathan Rosychuk extended Rocky Mountain's lead 4-0 at 9:33. Arizona's Dan Laperriere netted the first goal for the Sundogs in the second period, but Rocky Mountain's Noel answered back less than 30 seconds later for his third goal of the game. It marked the first hat trick earned by a Rage player in franchise history.

The Rage opened scoring in the third period just as they had in the first two. At 3:51, Rocky Mountain's Mark Wires sat in the penalty box for tripping, but the Rage would find themselves on the ‘powerplay' instead of Arizona; Defenseman Kyle Kos and center Matic Kralj each netted a short-handed goal at 4:30 and 5:17 respectively.

Noel would top off scoring for the Rage at 7:46 on the powerplay for his fourth goal of the night and extending the team's lead 8-1. Arizona's Brent Kelly and David Lizotte (2 goals) added three goals in the final seven minutes of regulation to bring the Sundogs within four.
