Youngstown SteelHounds News Release

The Youngstown SteelHounds saw history made as they won their first home game of 2007 in a thrilling shootout by the score of 5-4 over the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees on Saturday night.

The Hounds would start off on the right foot as Shaun Landolt scored two goals in a row to make it 2-0 SteelHounds after one period. For Landolt they were goals nine and 10 and were his first tally's since December 23rd.

The second period saw history made as on the power play Chris Richards recorded his 200th goal of his career to make it 3-0 Hounds. Chris Richards is an eight year CHL veteran who has 21 goals on the season.

The history was great but the Bees came storming back thanks to former SteelHound, Doug Orr who scored 30 seconds later to make it 3-1. David Masse made it 3-2 midway through the period as the Killer Bees were thinking come back. Tab Lardner put that idea on hold as at 16:57 of the second period he scored shorthanded to make it 4-2 Y-Town. The Killer Bees did not go quietly into the night as Jason Cirone scored on the power play to make it 4-3 after two periods.

The third period saw Rob Voltera tie the game on the power play in the 12th minute to tie the game at four and force overtime and eventually the second shootout in as many nights between the two teams.

Friday night's shootout saw the Bees on top but Saturday night saw Youngstown win the shootout 3-1 with Chris Richards getting the game winning goal to give the Hounds a 5-4 victory in front of a raucous crowd at the Chevy Centre. The Hounds and Bees will finish off their three game series tomorrow afternoon with a special 4:05pm start.
