Thunder, Mavericks Continue Independence Cup Series

The Independence Cup

Wichita, KS (October 23rd) - The Wichita Thunder, in conjunction with the Missouri Mavericks, have announced that the teams will once again be playing for the Independence Cup this season, presented by Independence Tourism. Wichita plays against the Mavericks 15 times this year and the team who earns the most points against will win the Independence Cup and a donation of a youth hockey scholarship.
"We are thrilled to be able to provide this opportunity to enhance our rivalry once again and give back to the youth hockey in Wichita," commented Thunder GM Joel T. Lomurno. "Our games with Missouri are very intense and this will only make our rivalry that much more exciting."
The winner will be presented with the Independence Cup on March 20, 2016, in Wichita following the final game of the season between the two teams. The winner will keep possession of the cup for the following season.
