Allen Americans News Release
Salt Lake City, Utah - The Allen Americans open a weekend set against the Utah Grizzlies tonight in Salt Lake City at 8:05 pm Central Time. Allen is 1-1 on their four-game road trip that started on Sunday in Tulsa.
The Americans are coming off a 3-1 win on Wednesday night over the Colorado Eagles, which saw them score three unanswered goals in that final period, including a shorthanded goal from Casey Pierro-Zabotel to get things started.
"We still have a lot of work to but we'll take it," said Americans Head Coach Steve Martinson, following Wednesday night's win.
Allen is 1 for 18 on the power play this season, which is good for 22nd overall in the league at just 5.6 %, but well below last year's numbers which were near the top of the league all season. The bright spot on special teams is their penalty kill, which is at 94.1%. Much of the success of the penalty kill is due to the outstanding play of rookie net minder, Joel Rumpel. Rumpel has a .936 save percentage and 1.76 goals against average.
The Americans are led in scoring by forwards Justin Courtnall and Tristan King, who have three points each. Courtnall, King and Makowski are all a plus two on the season to lead Allen.
Tonight's opponent, the Utah Grizzlies are off to a 2-0 start with both wins coming over Colorado. Utah is led by forward Barry Almeida, who has five goals in two games to lead the ECHL. Almeida had four of those goals in Utah's last game in Colorado.
Tonight will be the first meeting ever between the two clubs. They will meet six times total this year, with four of the six to be played in Utah.
You can watch tonight's game at either one of the away watching destinations, The Franchise in Plano or 5th Street Pizza in Allen. Listen online streaming on Hot 107.3 FM at www.hot1073fm.com or www.allenamericans.com. You can watch pay per view on ECHL TV at http://echl.neulion.com/echl/home. Today is the last day for the earlybird special price.
