Eagles and Rush to Battle for Crystal Cup
October 23, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
Windsor, CO. - The Colorado Eagles announced Friday that beginning with the Eagles game at Rapid City tonight, the two teams will now be battling for a travelling trophy, awarded to the team with the most points during the season series. The winner of the Crystal Cup is the team that earns the most points after the conclusion of the 12-game head-to-head series this season. If the teams finish the series with the same point total, then the first tie-breaker would be goal-differential. Should that not decide a winner, then total goals scored will be used to settle the stalemate.
These teams share one of the most intense rivalries in minor-pro hockey dating back to the first season they both squared off against each other in the 2008-09 season. Both adversaries clashed for three seasons before the Eagles moved to the ECHL at the end of the 2010-11 season, and met again for the first time in four seasons last year when the Rush followed suit in joining the "Premiere 'AA' Hockey League".
"The rivalry between the Colorado Eagles and Rapid City Rush has been one of the more passionate and enjoyable in the history of these two organizations," said Eagles head coach and general manager Chris Stewart. "To add a piece of hardware which fans and players can now embrace and contend for each season will only add another layer to this annual season series."
