Thunder Fall in Extra Innings

Trenton, NJ - New Hampshire scored five runs in the 11th inning to sink the Thunder 10-5 on Tuesday night. Trenton scored three runs in the eight to send the game into extra innings and had the bases loaded in the ninth but failed to score. The loss moves Trenton (76-53) to 2 ½ games over New Hampshire for first place in the Eastern Division.

Matt Liuzza smacked his second home run of the night in the 11th inning to snap a 5-5 tie and spark a five-run inning for New Hampshire. LHP Wilkins Arias (3-3) pitched a scoreless 10th but allowed five runs on four hits in the 11th for the loss.

A three-run Thunder eighth inning tied the game at 5-5 off reliever Trystan Magnuson. Justin Christian smacked an RBI double and Austin Romine delivered a base hit to center field to score Dan Brewer with the tying run. Christian walked twice and scored three runs on the night.

Making his Double-A debut, Betances struck out eight and walked two in 4 2/3 innings worked. The 6-foot-8 RHP and allowed two runs on two hits in a no decision.

Betances allowed an unearned run in the first and a solo home to Matt Liuzza in the third before being removed for J.B. Cox.

Alfredo Aceves followed and was hit for three runs in 1 1/3 innings in his fourth rehab appearance of the season. New Hampshire smacked three consecutive doubles off Aceves in the sixth inning and two more in the seventh for a 5-2 lead.

The Thunder are now 6-16 against New Hampshire this season including ten losses at Waterfront Park.
