TONIGHT: The Richmond Flying Squirrels and the Reading Phillies will meet in game two of a three-game series...The Flying Squirrels rallied back from an early 4-1 deficit to force extra innings; however, the R-Phils scored a pair of runs in the top of the 10th inning and Reading claimed the series-opener on Monday night at The Diamond.
TONIGHT'S STARTERS: Left-hander Clayton Tanner gets the start in game two of the series for the Flying Squirrels...Received a no-decision in his last outing at New Britain 8/19...Allowed five runs, three earned, on five hits in three innings plus two batters...Struck out one batter and walked two...Allowed the leadoff batter to reach in three of his four innings, scored twice...Recorded four ground outs and three fly outs...Threw 45 pitches, 25 strikes...Has thrown four innings or fewer in five of his 24 starts including two of his last three...Is 1-2 with a 4.82 ERA in four starts in August...Has allowed 19 runs, 10 earned, on 27 hits in 18 2/3 innings this month (.355 OBA) while striking out 11 and walking 10...Went a combined 5-2 with a 2.72 ERA (22 er/72.2 ip) in 11 starts in June and July...Is 5-3 with a 2.59 ERA in 13 games at The Diamond while going 3-5 with a 4.42 ERA in 11 starts on the road...Left-handed batters are hitting .189 against him (20-for-106)...Is seventh in the Eastern League with a 3.38 ERA.

Ramirez gets the nod in game two of the series for the Phillies...Received a no-decision in his last start against Akron 8/18...Allowed two runs on five hits in six innings...Struck out six batters and walked two...Recorded his sixth quality start in 12 total outings with Reading...Left-handed batters are hitting .314 (48-for-153) against him...Seven of the 11 home runs that he has allowed have been hit by right-handed batters...Earned the win in his lone start against Richmond at The Diamond 7/26...Allowed two runs on five hits in six innings while striking out five and walking one...Began the season with Advanced-A Clearwater...Went 4-3 with a 4.06 ERA in 11 starts...Struck out 55 batters and walked 17 in 64 1/3 innings...Acquired from the Seattle Mariners in along with right-hander Phillippe Aumont and outfielder Tyson Gillies in exchange for left-hander Cliff Lee 12/16/09...Entered the 2010 season rated as the #18 prospect in the Seattle Mariners organization according to Baseball America...Went 8-12 with a 5.12 ERA in 28 games, including 27 starts with Advanced-A High Dessert in 200...Struck out 111 batters and walked 53 in 142 1/3 innings of work...Went 5-6 with a 6.78 ERA in 17 games including 16 starts at home...Was 3-4 with a 3.09 ERA in 11 starts on the road...Spent all of 2008 with Low-A Wisconsin and went 6-9 with a 4.14 ERA in 25 games including 22 starts...Struck out 113 batters and walked 38 in 124 innings...Opponents hit .239 against him...Made domestic debut with Short Season-A Everett in 2007...Went 3-7 with a 4.30 ERA in 15 starts with the AquaSox...Struck out 73 batters and walked 43 in 75 1/3 innings...Opponents hit .211 against him...Originally signed by the Seattle Mariners as a non-drafted free agent 7/2/05.
EXTRA TOUGH: The Flying Squirrels dropped to 6-7 in extra-innings with last night's 6-4, 10-inning loss to Reading...It was the 13th extra-inning game this season for the club, second-most in the Eastern League behind Harrisburg's 14 extra inning contests.
THOMAS THE TRAIN: Outfielder Thomas Neal has hits in each of his last seven games, his team-leading 10th hit streak of five games or more...The 23-year-old is 8-for-27 (.296) with four doubles, a home run, four RBI, and five runs scored...Nine of Neal's total 11 home runs have come on the road...He is third in the Eastern League in hits (140) and in doubles (37)...Since 6/1, Neal is batting .313 (88-for-281) in 73 games with 26 doubles, eight home runs, 39 RBI, and 47 runs scored...He has raised his batting average from .255 to .292 over that span.
THE WEATHER MAN: Third baseman Conor Gillaspie has hits in each of his last seven contests, his sixth hit streak of five games or more which is second-most on the club...The 23-year-old is 11-for-30 (.367) over his last seven games with five doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored... Since 7/1, he is batting .362 (59-for-163) with 13 doubles, three triples, two home runs, 25 RBI, and 19 runs scored...Gillaspie has raised his batting average from .254 to .294 since 7/1...He also ranks second on the team with runners in scoring position, hitting .326 (42-for-129) in that situation (minimum 20 at-bats).
SCHOOP-A-LOOP: Utility man Sharlon Schoop went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a walk last night...Since 8/1, the 23-year-old is batting .328 (20-for-61) with six doubles, a home run, 15 RBI and seven runs scored in 15 games...He is also hitting .478 (11-for-23) with 15 RBI with runners in scoring position this month...In his previous 22 games with Richmond, Schoop hit just .172 (5-for-29) with nine RBI with runners in scoring position.
UNBUCKLING THE BELT: In 121 games combined between Advanced-A San Jose and Double-A Richmond, first baseman Brandon Belt tied for the lead in all of minor league baseball in batting average (.361), is second in on-base percentage (.459), is third in slugging percentage (.623) and is fourth in RBI (100)...The 22-year-old is batting .420 (21-for-50) with runners in scoring position in 44 games with the Flying Squirrels and is hitting .394 (54-for-137) overall with runners in scoring position this season.
DOUBLETREE DOWNTOWN DOUBLE PLAYS: The Richmond Flying Squirrels have turned 154 double plays in 126 games including six on 5/7 in Harrisburg...The Flying Squirrels have not gone more than three games without a double play this season...The club leads the Eastern League in double plays turned.
CFS STAT OF THE NIGHT: Right-hander Mike MacDonald remained winless in five starts against the Reading Phillies this season after receiving a no-decision in last night's 6-4 loss to the R-Phils...The 28-year-old is 0-4 in five starts against Reading this season with an 8.28 ERA and has allowed 24 runs, 23 earned, on 42 hits in 25 innings to the Phillies...Entering the season, MacDonald was 2-0 with a 1.80 ERA (3 er/15 ip) in his only two previous outings against Reading, both coming in 2006.
