Trenton Thunder News Release

(Trenton, NJ)- New Britain RF Matt Allegra had a homer and three RBI to lead New Britain to a 3-2 win over the Trenton Thunder on Thursday evening. The loss is the fifth straight for Trenton (21-9), which now has a 1 1/2 game lead over New Hampshire in the Northern Division.

Allegra was responsible for New Britain's runs on the night. He doubled home DH David Winfree in the 2nd Inning and added a two-run homer in the 4th Inning off Trenton starter Jeff Marquez. Marquez (4-2) took the loss allowing three runs over six innings. He walked two and struck out one.

Meanwhile, New Britain (15-12) got a solid outing from starter Brad Baker. He held the Thunder hitless until the 5th inning. Trenton got their only two hits of the night in that inning... a single by 3B Carlos Mendoza and a two-run homer from CF Matt Carson. Baker (2-0) got the win with two walks and three strikeouts. The Rock Cats bullpen then added three scoreless innings with Jose Mijares working the 9th Inning for his fifth save.

Trenton got excellent bullpen work from Edwar Ramirez, who shutout New Britain over the final three innings with eight strikeouts.

The four-game series continues on Friday at 7:05 PM. Brett Smith (3-0, 0.92), with the best ERA in the Eastern League, goes to the mound for Trenton against New Britain's Nick Blackburn (2-1, 3.81).
